It’s been a wild ride — travelling to many countries, meeting countless people, and learning a lot!
When You eventually turned travel into a successful travel blog, and still travel on a regular basis as part of your dream job.
1. Self Control is Important
Self Control is the most important travel tip. Don’t worry about things you can’t change. Life is far too short to be constantly angry and irritated while travelling. Have you missed your bus? Don’t worry, there will be another.
Is the ATM empty? Great! Explore the next town by taking an unplanned road trip. I know it can be difficult at times, but take a deep breath and remind yourself that things could be worse.
2. Get up early to avoid crowds.
Rise before sunrise to avoid large tourist crowds and have the best attractions to yourself. Because of the soft diffused light, it’s also a magical time for photos, and it’s usually easier to interact with locals getting ready for the day.
Want those postcard Instagram travel shots? You need to get out there before everyone else shows up. Sketchy areas are less dangerous in the morning too. Honest hardworking people wake up early; scammers and criminals sleep in…
3. Take Many Epic Travel Photos
Take note of this travel advice. You may only see these places and meet these people once in your life. Keep plenty of photos of them to remember them by! Don’t worry about looking like a “tourist“. Great photos are the ultimate keepsakes.
They don’t cost anything, are simple to share, and take up no room in your luggage. Take lots of photos of yourself with other people; they’ll be more valuable than your postcard shots later. Just remember that once you’ve got your shot, you should get out from behind the lens and enjoy the scenery.
4. Be adaptable and avoid overplanning
When readers ask how many days they should spend travelling in a specific country or city, I cringe. To be honest, I have no idea what you’ll like or who you’ll meet. I expected to fly through Nicaragua in a week or two, but I ended up staying for four months because I liked it so much.
Choose a starting point, one or two must-do activities, and an end point (or not). Then simply leave the rest to the universe. Be adaptable and willing to change your plans if you discover something new along the way!
5. Bring Earplugs and an Eye Mask
This travel tip should be at the top of the list. My earplugs are fantastic! Muffle the sounds of crying babies, inebriated Australians, barking dogs, honking horns, dorm sex, natural gas salesmen, and other things. The best travel companion. These are my preferred earplugs in terms of comfort and effectiveness.
Another excellent investment for overcoming jet lag is a comfortable eye mask. If you’re looking for more travel gift ideas, check out my ultimate travel gift guide for those travellers in your life (or just a treat for yourself!)
6. Make New Friends with the Locals
Avoid other travellers whenever possible and strike up a conversation with a local. One of my top travel tips is to make more eye contact and smile. Stop and ask for directions. This is a quick way to meet new people.
Check out websites like MeetUp.com or CouchSurfing.org, as well as other good travel websites, to see what kinds of activities are happening in your area and join one. Spend time with locals who actually live in the country you’re visiting. More than sights, people enrich your travels.
